Event News

Despite COVID-19, there is still a lot going on. Some of it is virtual, but live events are starting to happen again, especially in Europe. We have updated our list of events to reflect what we know. Some highlights:

JTech Scholarships
[First JTech Scholarships Awarded](/news/2020-09-jtech-scholarships/)

The first group of scholarships have been awarded by the James Taylor Foundation's Junior Training and Educational Hotspot (JTech) to attend Biological Data Science.

Please consider making a donation to JTech to support James Taylor’s legacy.

Gateways 2020
[Gateways 2020](https://sciencegateways.org/web/gateways2020/)

Registration for Gateways 2020 ends October 5. Conference events start on October 12 with a week of tutorials, including Securing Science Gateways with Custos Services on Wednesday October 14.

MIGALE
[Cycle "Bioinformatique par la pratique"](https://migale.inra.fr/trainings)

Two more workshops in October in Jouy-en-Josas and in French.

  • Analyse primaire de données issues de séquenceurs nouvelle génération sous Galaxy, October 16.
Galaxy Developer Roundtable
[Galaxy Developer Roundtable](/community/devroundtable/ )

The next two roundtables are October 15 and October 29. Both events need speakers (that means you!).

eResearch Australasia
[eResearch Australasia](/events/2020-10-eresearch-australasia/)

Galaxy is featured in talks, a BoF, and a poster at the virtual eResearch Australasia this month. Learn more about Galaxy Australia and how Galaxy support research at CSIRO.

Paper Cuts are irritating
Paper Cuts: 21 October

Paper cuts are annoying but easy to fix bugs. We plan to have a one-day contribution fest, dedicated to reducing Paper cuts in Galaxy and its ecosystem. It will be a 24-hours event to span all time zones with our worldwide community. The first one will be on October 21. Please save the date! It's an ideal opportunity for newcomers to get started. And remember it's still Hacktoberfest!

ASHG2020
[ASHG 2020](https://www.ashg.org/meetings/2020meeting/)

As many other events, the American Society of Human Genetics Meeting is going virtual this year.

There will be a session on GWAS Analysis with Galaxy on the Analysis Visualization Integrated Lab-space (AnVIL).

BioHackathon Europe
[Galaxy @ BioHackathon Europe 2020](/events/2020-11-biohackathon-europe/)

Galaxy is featured in at least 6 projects at BioHackathon Europe 2020, being held online, 9-13 November. Registration is available on a first come, first serve basis. Registration is free, but space is limited. Register now.

Upcoming Events
Upcoming Events

There are 15 events in the next 3 months:

  • 9 are online.
  • The remaining 6 are in France (4) and the United States (2).

Releases

[Pulsar 0.14.0](https://github.com/galaxyproject/pulsar/blob/master/HISTORY.rst)

Pulsar is a Python server application that allows a Galaxy server to run jobs on remote systems (including Windows) without requiring a shared mounted file systems. Unlike traditional Galaxy job runners - input files, scripts, and config files may be transferred to the remote system, the job is executed, and the results are transferred back to the Galaxy server - eliminating the need for a shared file system.
